If no, this is largely mechanical. Fit a one-way device, let the animal leave to forage, seal the building behind it, clean up. Days, not weeks.
If yes, everything changes. You cannot exclude a mother and seal the entry with dependent young inside — they die in the void, which is an animal welfare failure, a serious odour and insect problem, and in many places an offence.
Buildings get chosen as nurseries, not as shelters. Attics, chimneys, and voids are warm, dry, defensible, and undisturbed, which is exactly what a female needs. That's the reason she picked your house.
How it's handled: locate and hand-remove the young, then place them in a heated reunion box at the exclusion point so the mother collects them and carries them to another den site. Or make the site unattractive so she relocates them herself. Or wait, where young are close to mobile and there's no hazard.
A wildlife job during breeding season is not a same-day job. Anyone offering one either hasn't checked for young or isn't planning to tell you what happened to them.
Twenty minutes, from a garden chair, and it's safer and more informative than going into the attic.
Sit where you can see the roof line, starting about half an hour before sunset.
Note the time anything emerges, exactly where, how many, and whether any single animal makes more than one trip.
Squirrels are diurnal — watch early morning instead. Entry is a neat rounded gnawed hole at a roof edge or gable vent.
Raccoons emerge after dusk, heavy and deliberate. Entry is torn — soffits pulled down, vents ripped open.
Bats emerge in a stream at dusk, light and fluttering. Counting the departures gives a colony size estimate, and they cause no structural damage because they use existing gaps.
Opossums and skunks operate at ground level rather than the roof line.
And don't go into the attic if you suspect raccoons, bats, or anything with young. A cornered female defending a litter in a confined space is how people get hurt.

Relocation is bad for the animal. Released outside its territory, without knowledge of food, water, or den sites, and competing with established residents, survival rates are poor.
Trapping doesn't solve the building. The entry stays open, and a den site that suited one animal suits the next — sometimes within days.
And during breeding season, trapping a mother is the same failure as sealing. The litter is still in your attic.
The method instead: a one-way device on the primary entry. The animal leaves to forage on its own schedule and can't return. Nobody handles anything, nothing is transported, and it stays in the territory it knows.
Where trapping is genuinely necessary: an animal that won't leave, a situation where a one-way device can't be positioned, an immediate hazard, or an injured or sick animal.
You may seal an animal inside. It tears at the seal, gnaws new openings, and frequently comes downward into living space looking for another way out.
You may seal a litter inside.
The damage of getting out exceeds the damage of getting in — which is bill four, several times larger.
And it may be illegal.
Never seal a bat roost while bats are present. Bats are protected in many jurisdictions, exclusion is only permitted at certain times of year, and there are periods when it cannot lawfully be done at all because flightless pups are present.

This is the figure that determines whether the other three ever recur. A sealed building doesn't get reoccupied. An unsealed one does, and next year you pay all four again.
Raccoon latrines — repeated defecation in one location — create accumulations carrying a parasite risk requiring particular handling, not a broom and a bin bag.
